Camp America- the background story
Camp America was founded in 1969 and prides itself as one of the pioneering cultural exchange programs. Camp America is under the umbrella of the American Institute for Foreign Study and Camp America offices are found all over the world including the UK, USA, Poland, Germany and Australia.
Camp America- today
Camp America sends over 7000 lucky participants each year across the globe to spend their summers working on a camp in America. Camp America works with over 900 camps across the states, from independent to non-profit camps. Camp America operate several recruitment fairs normally around January/February, giving participants the chance to meet camp directors and secure a placement then and there. They pride themselves on their customer service and experience in the market.
Camp America- The Process
First you fill out your online application and pay your first payment (£65 UK)-this will be returned if your application is not successful.
If your application is successful, the local interviewer you selected will contact you and arrange an interview- pay second payment before interview (£70 UK).
The Camp America interviewer will be someone who has been through the program for at least two years and has taken the interview training course with Camp America. They will go through your application/ references/ police check and ask a number of probing questions to get a feel for what type of person you are and what you can offer to a camp. They will be the one who either accepts or rejects you onto the program and will write the overall recommendation essay on you.
If successful your application will go live in the Camp America data base. Camp America will then do their best to make a match between you and a camp that are requiring someone with your skill set.
Your application will be on the Camp America database that all camps affiliated with Camp America can search based on their requirements.

Camp America- Salary
Camp America will pay you a pocket money of between $600- 1200 for a 9 week contract- however you do get free flights, accommodation and food at camp. The pocket money rate depends on your age and skill set.
