Summer Camp Application
Summer Camp Application
No matter which agency you have chosen to go with; Camp America, Camp Leaders, Ameri Camp, Bunac, CCUSA- there will still be a summer camp application you will have to go through.
The majority of these summer camp applications take on the same format. You will have your first basic summer camp application to fill out online- giving a brief summary of what you have to offer and your motivation. The second part of the summer camp application is a bit more robust and normally this will only be activated once you have had your interview and been accepted on the program.
Summer Camp Application Tips
You must focus on the fact that your summer camp application form is to sell you as a person to a camp director. The person who will ultimately deny or accept your application and hire you! The summer camp agency can only mentor you so far. But with thousands of summer camp applications, you have to stand out.
After reading hundreds of applications there is nothing worse than waffle. Do we know its waffle- yes. Do you know its waffle- yes. So the only reason for you using it is because you can’t fill the application with enough details. Get to the point, be concise and factual.
If you say you have a level 3 in canoeing, you darn well better have it when you arrive at my camp. If you’ve worked as a climbing instructor at home and are telling me there is nothing you’d love more than to teach climbing at my camp- then when you get here don’t tell me you’ve had enough of climbing and wanted to try something new. So be honest on your application- state what you can do and what you would like to do.
EVERYONE tells me they are Out-going, Enthusiastic, Fun, Energetic, Motivated etc. Big words which have little meaning unless you can explain how you are these things. Telling me your a motivated person- tells me nothing- how are you motivated, tell me examples, how will this help me etc.
If a picture tells 1000 words, then a video tells a 100,000. Words on paper are only words on paper. I want to see you teaching swimming or see projects of your art work. I’d love to see you introduce yourself using a video- show me some of your skills or child interaction.
So remember- for your summer camp application,be concise, be honest, don’t waffle and show lots and lots.
The other thing about your summer camp application is time frame it takes you to complete it. With many agencies they will require you to get your police check, references and certificates ready for the same time as your completed summer camp application. So the only thing holding up your application circulating around camp directors is you! Get on the ball and get going with it. Get your summer camp application in on time and if it’s not in by now, by the end of November you are really reducing your opportunity. There is still time, but get a push on with your summer camp application.
